Spare Parts Finder

Returns & Refunds

Last updated 6 August 2026

Please read this first. Spare Parts Finder is a marketplace. Most parts listed here are sold by independent third-party sellers, not by us. When you buy from one of those sellers, your contract of sale is with that seller — they are responsible for the part, its description and its condition.

Where a listing is sold by Spare Parts Finder itself, the seller name on the listing will be “Spare Parts Finder”, and we are the supplier for that sale.

Your rights in short

South African consumer law gives you real protection when you buy a part here, including a used one. The main rights are set out below. A seller cannot take these away in their own listing terms.

1. Cooling-off on online purchases

Section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act gives you 7 days from delivery to cancel most goods bought online, without giving a reason. Return the part unused and in the condition you received it, and you get a refund of the purchase price. You pay the cost of returning it.

2. If the part is faulty, unsafe or not as described

Section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act gives you 6 months from delivery to return a part that is faulty, unsafe, or does not match its description. You choose whether you want a repair, a replacement or a refund. In this case the seller carries the cost of the return.

This applies to used and salvage parts too. What differs is the standard: a used part must be as described and fit for its ordinary purpose given its age and stated condition — not that it must be as good as new.

3. Wrong part supplied

If the seller sent something other than what was listed, they must correct it at their cost. Contact them first, and contact us if they do not respond.

When a return may be refused

Ordering the wrong part. Fitment on used parts is not always obvious. If you ordered incorrectly and the listing was accurate, a return is at the seller's discretion outside the 7-day cooling-off period. To avoid this, use the VIN decoder on the site, check the body or engine code, and ask the seller before you buy if you are unsure.

How to return a part

  1. Contact the seller through the listing, by WhatsApp or email, within the applicable period.
  2. Give the order number or listing link, the reason for the return, and photographs where the part is faulty or wrong.
  3. Agree the return method with the seller. Keep proof of postage or of collection.
  4. Once the seller receives and inspects the part, they process the refund.

If the seller does not respond within 7 days, email us at info@sparepartsfinder.co.za with the details and we will follow up with them.

Refunds

Refunds are made using the same method you paid with, and should reach you within 10 business days of the return being accepted. Where you cancelled under the 7-day cooling-off right, the purchase price is refunded but the original delivery charge and the return cost are not.

Parts that cannot be returned

Some items cannot be returned for safety or legal reasons once supplied, including airbags and other pyrotechnic components, and immobiliser or security modules coded to a vehicle. This does not affect your rights if such a part is faulty or was not as described.
